About the PSAT
The PSAT, or preliminary SAT, is a practice test for the SAT. PSAT scores provide a breakdown of performance in each of three sections (Math, Critical Reading and Writing), thus helping students identify their weak areas and concentrate their focus of study for the SAT. The PSAT is typically administered to high school juniors in the month of October, although some sophomores may choose to take the exam. The PSAT is also referred to as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) since high scores on the PSAT give students a chance to qualify for the prestigious National Merit Scholarship programs.
