The Turnberry Tutor Difference

With increasing numbers of learning centers and private tutors in your community, finding a tutor for your child is easy. Finding the right tutor, however, is much harder. To suppose that dropping your child off to a learning center will automatically improve his or her grades and test scores grossly oversimplifies the tutor-student relationship. Many frustrated parents have come to me seeking help for their child after investing a significant amount of money in countless hours of leaning center programs and private tutoring with no noticeable improvements in their child’s grades. In order for the tutor-student relationship to work, it must be student-specific and catalytic. The tutor must mentally click with your child in order to accelerate the learning process and maximize his or her academic potential. Turnberry Tutor’s adaptable teaching methods and customized instruction ensure that your child receives the one-to-one attention that gets results. Her track record, student rapport, academic credentials, flexible hours and email availability have all contributed to her tutoring success. Contact Turnberry Tutor directly at 1.646.361.4041 to schedule your child’s first session and start him or her on the path to academic excellence.

Turnberry Tutor has wide-ranging academic expertise and provides K-12 tutoring in the following subjects:

Student Rapport

Turnberry Tutor understands that a tutor must mentally connect to each child in order to maximize his or her learning capacity. Turnberry Tutor makes this connection by finding ways to best “talk” to her students. Once this connection is established, a figurative mental bridge can be built that allows for the fluid exchange of ideas from tutor to student. By building mental bridges, Turnberry Tutor helps students integrate new information efficiently and perform better academically.

Ivy League Educated

Turnberry Tutor obtained her degree from Princeton University (Class of ’00), a prestigious academic institution that has consistently ranked at the top of U.S. News & World Reports’ annually compiled list of best colleges and universities. With first-hand experience of the college admissions process, Turnberry Tutor is a highly knowledgeable guide for students seeking to gain admission to elite universities. Many learning centers do not provide tutors with an Ivy League education since they aim to keep operational costs to a minimum in order to maximize center profits. As a result, parents pay top dollar for a mediocre tutor, with mediocre results typically the case. Working one-to-one with Turnberry Tutor, your child will receive the top-level instruction he or she deserves.

Science Background

Turnberry Tutor holds a bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology from Princeton University. Ironically, her Junior Paper (Understanding How Nurture Affects Nature: The NMDA Receptor May Mediate the Enhanced Performance of Mice Reared in a Stimulating Environment) focused on the neurobiological basis of learning and memory. Her research indicated that rearing mice in a nurturing and stimulating environment contributed to overexpression of the gene encoding the NMDA receptor, which has been linked to learning and memory formation. Extrapolating her findings to real world observations, children reared in stimulating environments tend to perform better academically than those raised under non-stimulating conditions. This observation strongly supports the provision of private 1:1 tutoring for struggling students to improve their grades and test scores.

During her senior year, Turnberry Tutor conducted independent research on a hereditary form of colorectal cancer, investigating the role of mismatch repair genes in this cancer’s formation. Her research developed into her Senior Thesis (Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer: Melding Genetics and Medicine), which is currently on display at Princeton University’s Mudd Library.

Turnberry Tutor’s strong science background makes her adept at providing instruction in biology, chemistry and physics to students in grades K-12. Many learning centers do not offer science tutoring for lack of knowledgeable tutors in this academic area. Science aptitude, however, is critical to successfully preparing your child for the growing number of careers in the healthcare, pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. These industries continue to flourish despite the decline in other economic sectors. Preparing your child with a strong foundation in science will open a host of opportunities for his or her future.
